Nine common mistakes some people with acne do

Acne, or a lot of pimples, is not an uncommon problem in adolescence - or in adulthood for that matter. Here are some common mistakes that can create worse conditions for the skin, of course together with tips to instead make it easier for the skin on the face.

1. You wash your face too often

Many people with pimples wash their face too much. Acne has nothing to do with dirty skin and you should not wash more than every morning and evening - then you risk drying out the skin which will produce even more fat - and thus even more pimples. Instead, use a mild face wash for oily and frizzy skin. ACO Spotless  is specially adapted for oily and impure skin. It has a clogging effect on your skin and inhibits bacterial growth.

Benzoyl peroxide contained in the drug  Basiron AC Wash  has a bactericidal effect on the acne bacterium. The gel should work on the skin for 1-5 minutes before rinsing off with water.

After cleaning, you can bathe with  acne solution  or iron on an  acne nail . ACO Acne solution contains salicylic acid which prevents the pores from clogging. Basiron AC gel is an over-the-counter drug with benzyl peroxide that has a bactericidal effect.

2. You peel your face too hard

Peeling removes dead skin cells, but large abrasive grains can disrupt sensitive skin. If dry skin is not removed, it builds up on the surface of the skin and clogs the pores, which can cause blackheads and pimples. Therefore, it can be a good thing to exfoliate - but skip the grain-based peeling, it can be a little too tough on the skin. Instead, use  a mild, fine-grained scrub  twice a week and feel free to supplement with  a face mask  afterwards.

3. You change products too quickly

There are no shortcuts. Although it can be tempting to try that new, exciting cream because the result of your current one can wait, it may be worth enduring a little longer. It takes about 6-8 weeks before you see results from a new product - so persevere. In the beginning, even the skin can get worse because the skin is a little above. But do not give up!

4. You neglect the moisture

Use a moisturizing day cream - otherwise you risk the skin becoming unbalanced and starting to produce more of its own fat. It is important that you do not use products that clog the sebaceous gland's mouth and aggravate acne, for example avoid oily creams and oils.

Some people find that a fat-free gel is effective in moisturizing the skin. La Roche-Posay Effaclar K +  is a moisturizing face cream for oily and impure skin. The formula has a speech-dissolving effect and reduces the appearance of impurities. You can also moisturize with  hyaluronic acid  that does not clog the skin.

5. You're crazy about squeezing pimples

Do not pinch the acne! The sebaceous gland can be damaged and the inflammation get worse. You should also not sting or cut an abscess yourself, it increases the risk of scarring. If you can not resist - make sure your hands are completely clean, sprayed and that the pimples are yellow and ripe. If you try to squeeze a pimple too early, it can "crack inwards" - then you usually get more pimples all around.

6. You sunbathe too much

It can be tempting to sunbathe when you have pimples. The sun temporarily reduces inflammation and acne can get better. Our recommendation is still not to sunbathe when you have acne, and always use SPF 30 or 50 when sunbathing.

You risk getting ugly scars when you sunbathe which becomes permanent even when the pimples have disappeared. If you have scars on your skin, which are often seen as small reddish-purple marks, these can remain for a longer time if you sunbathe. The time it takes before the scars become skin-colored is thus extended by tanning. Invest in a day cream with a sun protection factor for acne-prone skin to avoid dull scars.

Basiderm  is a day cream with SPF 30 that protects oily and acne-prone skin. It also contains emollient zinc and extracts from licorice root which also reduces sebum production.

7. You eat wrong

It is not scientifically proven that diet affects acne. If you still think that something you eat improves or worsens your acne, you should trust it. Try it out and see how the skin responds when you opt out of a certain diet. For example, if you notice that you get a lot of pimples from sugar, maybe you should cut down on it. Try to choose healthier alternatives instead - maybe a handful of natural nuts for a snack instead of that Toblerone?

8. You make up over the acne

It is super hard when the acne is visible, especially on the face, and it is tempting to put on make-up. The most important thing to keep in mind when applying make-up is to use products that allow the skin to breathe. Feel free to use mineral makeup, it does not clog the skin. The Swedish brand  Idun Minerals  makes several products that suit you with problem skin or sensitive skin. The minerals in the make-up from Idun Minerals are purified from substances such as chromium, microorganisms and nickel. They are also free of, for example, silicone and preservatives, which can cause irritation. Test their powder or foundation and see if it helps your skin!

9. You do not wash your makeup brushes

When you have problems with your skin, it is good to create as good conditions as possible for it. For example, you can make sure to  wash your makeup brushes a little more often . You can also use  allergy-friendly brushes  that are specially developed for sensitive skin, such as acne skin.
